Roanne harbour and the Loire banks
Starting point of the canal from Roanne to Digoin, Roanne harbour is a setting of barges and wooden benches facing the water. People come to run, walk the dog or simply sit facing the bridges. The reshaped quays invite a bike ride along the Loire, ideal for a spring afternoon together with nothing specific planned, just time to share.
City centre, market and starred table
On Place du Marché, the Wednesday and Saturday morning stalls brim with Bresse poultry, Loire vegetables and local cheeses. Roanne is also the Troisgros house, now in Ouches, triply starred for decades. Even without dining there, talking food on a Roanne café terrace is a simple way to see whether you share the same love of small pleasures.
The Côte roannaise and its wines
Just a few minutes from the centre, the Côte roannaise unfolds its gamay slopes. The cellars of Ambierle and Renaison welcome the curious for a tasting. Up top, medieval villages like Saint-Haon-le-Châtel offer a view over the plain. On Lyad, members from Roanne share their favourite tables and trails; it is up to you to find someone to head up into the vines with.
